What is a Home Team?
A Home Team is a small group of people who meet together in homes to learn about Christian living and to build close relationships within the church. Optimal size of a group is 12 and most Home Teams meet weekly.
Why are Home Teams important at Rivertown Church?
We must grow larger and smaller at the same time. A church with so many members cannot possibly rely on paid staff members to effectively meet all of the needs of the entire church. It is biblical and vital that churches enlist and enable members to do this work.
Are Home Teams biblical?
In the book of Acts, Luke records the tremendous growth of the first church in Jerusalem. Small group meetings in homes were the foundation of the early church. Acts 5:42 tells us that the people met “in the temple courts” (large group worship) and “from house to house” (small group fellowship). Jesus did much of His ministry in homes (Matt 8:14; Mark 2:1-5; Mark 2:15-17; Luke 8:51-56). Early Christians continued to meet in homes for fellowship, study and discipleship (Romans 16:5; 1Corinthians 16:19; Colossians 4:15; Hebrews 10:25).
Home Teams are the primary context for discipleship, fellowship, and caring at Rivertown Church.
Home Teams are a great way to build lifelong relationships, learn more about the Bible, and grow stronger spiritually.
Why Should I Join A Home Team?
To understand the Bible and Christianity better.
You can ask questions, participate in discussions, and hear others share their insights and illustrations of the biblical truths they are trying to grasp. As groups gather to encourage one another through the process of applying the teachings of the Bible to their lives, Christ followers can be seen in their “native environment”.
To provide support and care for each other.
Over 50 times in the New testament the phrase “one another” is used to describe our relationships to other believers. We are instructed to love one another, pray for one another, encourage one another, bear one another’s burdens and build up one another.
To begin to feel like a part of God’s family.
Building authentic relationships is a key focus of Home Teams. Confidentiality, honesty, and acceptance are core values in a Home Team.
To allow prayer to become more meaningful to you.
There are many promises in the Bible Related to the power of group prayer. In praying together with a few others, we are drawn together to practice and experience the power of prayer.
To handle stess and pressure better.
Home Teams provide excellent support in times of crisis, change, and stress. You’ll have a sense of security and stability knowing there are other people who really care about you.
All this happens in Home Teams!
